System Requirements

Microsoft Windows Operating System
  • Has been explicitly tested on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows XP.

Multimedia Setup

  • Speakers, Sound Card and associated operating system support.

  • Basically, if you can play a WAV file on your computer, the DAP Player should work.

System Resources

  • Has been explicitly tested on a 400-MHz Intel Celeron system equipped with 192 Mbytes of memory and a 5400 RPM hard disk made in 1996 with a transfer rate of 16 Mbytes/sec (ATA-2).

  • Has also been explicitly tested on a 2-GHz Intel Celeron system equipped with 512 Mbytes of memory and a 7200 RPM hard disk made in 2002 with a transfer rate of 133 Mbytes/sec (UDMA-133)

  • In the smaller and older system described above, there is no problem with playback performance when the system is lightly loaded. When there is system contention (e.g. processor and disk), playback can be momentarily interrupted.

  • In the larger and newer system described above, there is obviously more headroom to tolerate system loading and contention.

  • The playback performance on your computer depends in part on your usage profile which can best be determined by you. The best approach is to download my DAP Player onto your computer along with my demo piano segments. This then will allow you to listen to the demo pieces and assess the performance characteristics in the context of how you use your computer.

Hard Disk Space

  • The hard disk space needed to store the song files is indicated in the Purchase page.

DAP Player – Setup Instructions

Download the DAP Player executable file (daplay.exe) to your computer.

Place the DAP Player executable file (daplay.exe) in a folder/directory that is to be the permanent home for the DAP Player on your computer.

e.g. c:\Dap\

Double-click the DAP Player executable file. You should see the following.

Click the "Sign Up" menu item and proceed with the dialogue windows that appear. You must have an opened Internet connection to complete the Sign Up process.

Be sure to read the End User Agreement.

Proceed by clicking "I Agree" only if you agree to the terms of the End User Agreement.

Next you will be prompted for your Name and Email Address. In this example, "DAP User" and "user@domain" are entered. Enter your appropriate information.

Clicking "Next" will take you to the Sign Up confirmation window.

Clicking "Next" will submit your Sign Up which, if successful, will conclude with the Sign Up completion window.

Upon successful Sign Up, you will be able to play the DAP song files.

The DAP Player and its home directory must remain as originally named, otherwise the DAP Player will cease to function. Do not rename the home directory. Do not move the DAP Player from its home directory.

DAP Song Files – Setup Instructions

For demo songs, download a self-extracting DAP file from the Downloads page. Complimentary songs are described in the Referrals page. Purchased songs are described in the Purchase page. Place the self-extracting DAP file in any folder/directory of your choice but it is suggested that you place it in the DAP home directory (e.g. c:\Dap\). Double-click the self-extracting DAP file (.exe) and the DAP song file (.dap) will be generated. Please wait for completion as indicated by Progress: 100% – then press ENTER to continue.

It is mandatory for the DAP Player (daplay.exe) to reside in the DAP home directory but it is not mandatory for a DAP song file to reside in the DAP home directory.

DAP Player – Usage Instructions

The DAP Player menus are fairly self-explanatory and you should be able get started with using the DAP Player to play the DAP song files. Additional usage details follow.

The menu items are the simplest to get started with. The Toolbar provides icon buttons for the commands.

The keyboard function keys can be used for the commands and possibly offers the most direct control over playback functions.

The backward and forward function keys can be held down to apply the command repeatedly. In contrast, the menu items and Toolbar icon buttons must be clicked for each application of the command. Each backward and forward command causes 3 seconds of music to be skipped.

The backward and forward controls can be used while the song is playing or paused.

The DAP Player can be launched by double-clicking the daplay.exe file. A DAP song file with the .dap filetype can be double-clicked to cause playback via the DAP Player. Drag-and-drop of a .dap file onto the DAP Player can also be used to cause playback.
